It's shocking to read evidence of how widespread the problem is in college football. Keenan Howry is named in the story, as a client, though it doesn't specifically say he took cash while at Oregon. But you can read between the lines.
Most fans know that college football exists with a lot of uneasy double standards. It's a big business, and the competition to land and keep top players is fierce. The desire to win is fierce. Oregon is on the cusp of the greatest success in program history, and it's sad to think that success, if achieved, will coincide with the moment the curtain obscuring college football's seamy underside was rent forever.
Boosters, agents, player off-field behavior, drug and criminal activity, performance-enhancing drugs, it's all part of the elephant dung in the room. Unfortunately, there's a lot more to smell than just roses.
