Headed for PDX

Fifteen hours until kickoff. At the Nike Pep Rally, Joey Harrington gave an impassioned speech about how far the program has come and how the Bill Musgraves and Peter Sirmons helped it grow.

It has been an incredible ride being a Duck fan from the bad old days to now. Six wins used to be a big deal. The Weedeater Bowl was a big deal. Little by little the program grew, boosted by the bowl trips and an occasional win over Washington and USC. In the last decade the Ducks became nationally known, and now they are one victory away from the pinnacle.

Joey got them close. They were one injury away in 2007. Now they are there.

Will they finish the deal or fall back?

Losing to the Cam Newton show, and hearing all those ESPN guys blather on about SEC dominance would be agonizing.

The Ducks are ready for their moment. They have the heart and will to finish this thing. A true team will beat an "unstoppable" star.

If the game is close in the closing moments, look for Newton to try to win it himself, ala Vince Young. His ego will be his downfall. The Ducks pursue better than any team in the country. They have a knack for turnovers and big plays, and they never give up.
