In light of the recent arrests of Dustin Haines and Kiko Alonso, maybe the Ducks' Squad Leaders need to adopt a little Rex Kwan Do for the football team between now and August. From now on, we're on the buddy system-- no more flying solo.
No excuses, no shifting of blame, but Alonso could have used a teammate to say, "Hey, Kiko, c'mon man. You look a little out of it. Why don't you crash here for a while?"
Bob Rickert wrote today that 4-star tight end Evan Bayliss has verbally committed to Oregon:
Evan Baylis, a 4-star rated tight end by Rivals.com has verbally committed to Oregon. Baylis is 6' 5", 225lbs. and had 33 catches for 456 yards and six touchdowns last year while playing for Grandview High in the Denver suburb of Aurora.
Baylis also has offers from Arizona, Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, Duke, Indiana, Michigan, Northwestern, Stanford, UCLA and Utah. The Duke and Northwestern offers obviously demonstrate that academics won't be a problem for him, and there are more than enough quality schools on that list from a football standpoint to back up his 4-star rating.
With four-star size and stats, Bayliss looks like a great fit. You wonder with Colt Lyerla and Curtis White already in the fold, if this increases the chances the talented and athletic Christian French winds up on defense. French, 6-7 with 4.4 speed, only has a couple of years of football. He seems an ideal fit for the drop end role.
There's room for all of them, and the staff will no doubt find a role for each.
