Friday Walk-Through: News, Notes and Web Bites on Washington at Oregon

The Crabby Fighting Duck won't kick a dawg when he's down. But he's not going to buy him a McRib and a hot fudge sundae either. Rivalries, schmivalries, this is just a chance to go 9-0 and play football. It's business as usual against the purple and gold, and the Duck loves taking care of business: Ker-pow!

Matt Phrem of the Register-Guard reports that this is a big weekend for recruiting visits, including committed four-star offensive tackle Andre Yruretagoyena and five-star receiver George Farmer, who is sought after by USC and Alabama and several others.

Ken Goe has a feature on Duck running back/returner Kenjon Barner, who practiced full-go this week and may be available for Washington. Great to see Barner recovered and medically cleared to practice football. Goe continues his series of inside looks at key Oregon players, each with an emphasis on the character of the young men under the helmet. Few reporters take the time to develop this angle, and it's much appreciated. Barner is a quality young man, and Goe captures this very well in his story.

Matt Hinton, Dr. Saturday of Rivals.com has a primer on the Cam Newton eligibility situation, a developing story that could affect the Ducks in a couple of ways. A former Mississippi State quarterback named John Bond told reporters from ESPN and the New York Times that a man named Kenny Rogers asked for $180,000 to deliver Newton to Mississippi State during Newton's recruitment from junior college. The NCAA is investigating. So far there isn't a clear established link between Rogers and Newton, but as Hinton observes, there's a lot of smoke. It might remind Duck fans of the Bryce Brown situation a couple of years ago. There are a lot of sleazy characters who hang around athletes.

At this point Newton is eligible and suiting up for this week's game against Chattanooga. The Tigers have Georgia on November 13th, and travel to Alabama on November 26th.

Rob Moseley has a first look at Oregon's revised 2011 PAC-12 football schedule, which doesn't include a trip to Los Angeles.

The crabby fighting Duck doesn't fuss over schedules. Just tell him who we play and line 'em for a double flying bolo punch. He'll get around to those Trojans and Bruins again eventually: Ker-blamm!
