The Ducks owe it to the country to win this thing

George Schroeder of the Register-Guard has a great sum-up of the Cam Newton saga: charismatic but not believable.

The kid left Florida in a cloud of controversy, academic cheating, possession of a stolen laptop. The NCAA has already concluded his father shopped him to Mississippi State for $180,000, and now we're supposed to believe he went to Auburn for free. The condemned church suddenly has the funds to renovate.

Newton is a superlative talent but a story full of stink and spin. There's a strong likelihood an Auburn title will wind up being a black eye for college football, another unsatisfying vacated misery later on.

The Ducks could do the whole country a favor by settling one part of it on the field on Monday night.

  1. Cam was cleared of the cheating scandle at Florida, he also was cleared of that stolen laptop saga. Cam was also cleared by the NCAA in the Cecil Newton/Mississppi State Alum/Booster talking about money on the tele. There was no money paid out, no ten trucks, no church renovations and Cameron Newton is innocent. I am not a Auburn Fan, I am a Alabama Fan but I do believe that Oregan and Auburn are matched pretty close in the stats, and I believe in the end, the bigger, stronger AU players will wear down the smaller Ducks. At any rate, the rumors, the tabloid style reporting is illogical and senseless. Cameron Newton is innocent, he will play Monday and he is a great player and a great guy.

  2. "Not enough evidence to conclude" is not the same thing as "cleared." Check with me in 18 months.

Here's illogical--they wanted $180,000 to play at Mississippi State, but he went to Auburn for free? The money was too much. Enjoy the trophy while you have it. The NCAA will vacate it by August 2012.
