Would it be wiser if Oregon had ace recruiters on their staff rather than coaches capable of "coaching them up?" Jerry Azzinaro, the defensive coaches in general and Chip Kelly are getting burned every time at defensive tackle and end (outside of Koa-Ka'ai and Ebert). Tosh Lupoi, on the other hand, single-handedly earns Cal a top recruiting class. Obviously you'll give something up with a hired gun (as in coaching prowess), but isn't it more of the essence that Oregon gets these talented kids now? And would it be so bad if Oregon brought in someone with Lupoi's recruiting credentials?
On another note, I love your blog and read it all the time. I would say, though, that you do tend to overvalue the heart and soul of kids who go to Oregon. As we saw in the championship game, even that can only go so far. Coaching is great, but it's impossible to win consistently without recruiting.
I would rather lose by 3 points on the last play of the Natty with kids with heart like at Oregon and be proud of them than win by 3 points on the last play of the game with kids like rent-a-sCam.
