This is What Happens When You Try to Outthink Oregon Coach Chip Kelly
Your brain explodes like a Martian hearing Slim Whitman for the very first time.
In Oregon's quarterback competition, I’ve been an outspoken Costa supporter, but as I follow the reports from various sources I’m convinced of four things: the competition is much closer than I ever thought, Thomas is more ready than I gave him credit for, the Ducks will be formidable no matter who wins the job, and Chip Kelly will make the right decision.

No question the cometition is close. However,Thomas potentially has three years remaining. I would continue to develop Thomas and start him to provide him with all the game experience he needs to succeed in future years. Thomas is the future of this team and Duck fans need him to have all the experience to build skill at QB.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. In a different situation I think the future argument would have more weight, but the Ducks are in a position to win now. They return eighteen starters and the entire 2-deep, 85 starts, on the offensive line. They have a 1500-yard rusher. The defense looks as good as any defense Oregon has ever had.
Coach Kelly has to choose the guy he thinks gives him the best opportunity to win games. The college football season is 90 days long. He has to think in the present. The starter will have to earn the job based on his readiness to manage the offense.
Thanks for your input,
Dale
