Brandon Hanna is having a great spring. He's flying around, along with the rest of the defensive line, who have been the MVPs of spring camp, and making plays.
Hanna, a former linebacker, looks like a great fit in the drop-end role held down by Kenny Rowe for the last two years, a assignment that allows the player to blitz, rush the passer, defend the run or drop into coverage, giving the team tremendous flexibility in the looks they present to the offense. His versatility and agility creates confusion for opposing quarterbacks, and allows Nick Aliotti to vary the pressure with the same personnel.
Oregon's long-time defensive coordinator has famously said, "We'll start blitzing when we get off the bus." Having players like Hanna, who can handle a variety of roles, gives this defense flexibility and maximum aggressiveness.
Here's KVAL's interview with the 6-2, 240 lb. senior:
Hearing him speak, you can't help being reminded of another intelligent, poised, well-spoken Oregon Duck: Nate Costa. And that's a flattering a comparison for anyone.
