Elsewhere in College Football

Some news bits from ESPN's College Football Live:

Todd McShay now projects Cam Newton as the number one overall pick in the draft, and Auburn's Nick Fairley 8th.  Highest-rated Duck:  Casey Matthews, third or fourth round.

--Absolutely cannot see Newton as the number one pick; his work ethic, attitude and fascination with the camera are big alarm bells.  Newton is high risk/reward selection, sure to generate ticket sales, less likely to generate wins.  Could be a bust in the NFL.

The Tigers return just six starters next season, three on offense, three on defense.  They open at home versus Utah State on September 3rd, and the rest of their nonconference schedule includes home games with Florida Atlantic and Samford, plus a road game at Clemson on September 17th. In league play they have to travel to South Carolina, Arkansas, LSU and Georgia.  A repeat is unlikely.

In addition, former Auburn player Chaz Ramsey, who says he was paid over $5,000 by boosters and fans, says he has meeting with NCAA investigators next week.  Ramsey was one of the four Tiger athletes featured on Bryant Gumble's HBO show.

The Big 12's new TV deal with Fox will pay the league about $90 million a year, setting the stage for an even more lucrative bidding war for the new PAC-12 package that Larry Scott is currently negotiating.
