If you become a fan that takes an interest in the recruiting side of football, you're going to have to get used to disappointment. The story there is one of rumors, projections, speculations and reversals, more convoluted than the manufactured plots of Love Island or 90-Day Fiance.
Every athlete chooses a school for his own reasons. In the present climate, those decisions often involve a lot of money, but that doesn't make them any less valid or personal.
Today at 2:00 p.m. 5-star Arizona Edge Rusher Elijah Rushing announces his college choice on the 247Sports Youtube channel. The buzz from the recruiting websites is that he's going to pick his hometown school, the University of Arizona and head coach Jedd Fisch, which is also where his older brother plays.
The Ducks missed on this one. He's a talented player, but football is a relationship business. You never know when a coaching change or some other development might create an opportunity later on. Dan Lanning is too smart to burn bridges, so he keeps things positive at the end of every deal, no matter how they turn out.
Rest assured that Oregon is going to win their share. There are some wonderful players on the roster, and some promising athletes who will commit to the Ducks in the coming months. Those are the ones to follow and take an interest in. The others, you just have to wish them well.
