You don't tug on Superman's cape--but you do gang tackle him every time he carries the ball

Nick Aliotti, John Neal and the Oregon players refer to Cam Newton as "Superman." They're not being derisive. What you hear in interviews is a healthy respect for his talent, and an eagerness to accept the challenge of containing him.

Everyone talks about how Terrelle Pryor beat Oregon last year, but that's not how it happened. Jeremiah Masoli beat Oregon in last year's Rose Bowl. Pryor and his offense produced 26 points. The Ducks could score 27 in a half most weeks, but not when the quarterback goes 9-20 for 81 yards and an interception. If the Ducks keep Newton to 266 yards passing and 72 yards on the ground, they'll be kissing the crystal football.

Newton and Auburn are a challenge, no doubt. But everything we've seen in the last three weeks convinces me we'll see a much better prepared Oregon team in this bowl game. They will execute, pursue and gang tackle, and be a worthy nemesis for Superman. They may even bring him down to earth.
