1ST Quarter: Oregon vs Oregon State

1st play from scrimmage, Matthews levels Katz on a blitz. A clean, legal play hit just has he was throwing. Ball fluttered harmlessly to the turf, could have been a pick six if anyone had been in the flat.

OSU burns a timeout on 3rd and 5. Freshman quarterback Vaz in the game.

Vaz 3rd down pass directly into the hands of Eddie Pleasant, dropped.

And Cliff Harris, fighting for yardage, gets stripped. The big talk comes back to bite him.

Nightmare start for Oregon, again.

Every dang week they do this.

Good 2nd effort by Maehl for a first down, then James breaks for 31 on a sweep left.

OSU has gone to the air four times, and three were potential interceptions. They look shaky.

Now the offense has to introduce some sanity to this crazy start.
They've been batting balls all season, and finally one caroms in their direction. Terrelle Turner gathers in the pick.

Starting out like the '83 Toilet Bowl.

Offense looks sharp. Hook route to Huff for a first down, working the pitch. Then another stupid don't take care of the ball turnover. Unstinking believable.

OSU's only chance to stay in the game are self-inflicted wounds, and Oregon is two for two in their first two chances with the ball.

What is the deal with this team? They've been successful, but man, can they shoot themselves in the foot early in games.

You wouldn't want to start a national championship this way.

Matthews with a tenacious blitz. Made the sack from his knees after being cut.

Talmadge Jackson, giving ground, back to the ball, first down on 3rd and 17.

Really unimpressive start for Oregon. Perfect script for an upset. Eight minute drive, Quizz Rodgers with the touchdown reception, uncovered.

Great, precise drive. Barner with the nifty over-the-shoulder catch for the tying score.

But wait! Bad hold by Dustin Haines, and the Beavers are given another dose of unearned momentum.

If Oregon stops with the self-inflicted wounds, they can win by 30.
