Chip Kelly's on Another Short List--Is it Time to Panic?

Chip Kelly is no Jonas Salk, but he is a football genius. He has the drive, energy and vision to succeed in any program and at any level. He's a huge success, and no fluke. He might not catch Eddie Robinson, but he could catch any coach on the all-time PAC-10 list if he wants to.

As a natural result, he'll be sought after. Wooed. Fistfuls of cash will be dangled in front of him. He'll be on the speculation short list for every high-profile job, college and pro, for the next dozen years. Kelly has a gift. He's a teacher, a motivator and a keen offensive mind. He has a supreme gift for organization. He knows what works. He understands the importance of details, and fosters loyalty and confidence among his players.

Here's hoping he keeps thinking of Oregon as his dream job.

But every football opening from Florida to the 49'ers will prompt people to mention his name. His agent will field calls, season after season. Duck fans will get a little nervous, mindful of his rapid rise from 1-AA assistant to head coach of the potential national champions.

The sky's the limit for Chip Kelly. We can only hope he continues to love the wide-open horizon in the beautiful Willamette Valley.
