Friday Walk-Through: News Notes and Web Bites for the National Championship Game

Eagles, Tigers, Barners, Bammers--make up your freakin' mind. Time to line up and play football. The crabby Fighting Duck is nobody's underdog. He's a Duck, and he flies to Arizona for a business trip every year. War Dam this: ka-pow!

espn.com has a feature on the Oregon play card system, which I've always wondered about. It seems too simple, with just six cards per game. Could an opponent figure it out? ESPN had a couple of math wizards look into it.

Rob Moseley reports Lavasier Tuinei is recovered and ready to play, which will be a boost for Oregon's passing game.

nfl.com has a bit of a shocker. Their sources say the 49'ers will announce Jim Harbaugh as their new head coach at a 3:30 p.m. press conference. He'll sign for about $5 million a year, more than twice what he's making at Stanford. John Hunt contacted Mike Bellotti to gauge his interest in coaching at The Farm, and the former Duck head coach was coy.

541radio.com has the audio version of today's Cliff Harris interview.

Nate Costa says "never count me out." He hints he may suit up for the national title game, which could be an emotional boost for the Ducks. If he can hold for placekicks, that gives Rob Beard an extra measure of confidence. It certainly would be sweet to see him take the snaps in victory formation, that's certain.

Kobe Bryant and boxer Micky Ward had inspirational talks with the Ducks this week, Moseley reports. They get a consistent message of confidence in preparation and competitive intensity, reinforced with some powerful examples.

Speaking of powerful examples, the guys at Nike have a Sunday live chat from Glendale featuring Duck greats Joey Harrington, Jonathan Stewart, Jairus Byrd, and Dennis Dixon, hosting by Webfoot legend and NFL Hall of Famer Dan Fouts.

The crabby Fighting Duck knows once you're a Duck you're always a Duck, and these greats created the spirit and foundation that makes this moment possible. It's a great day to be a Duck, but then it always is. Quack!
