Rivalries, schmivalries. The crabby fighting Duck doesn't get his feathers in a twist if some flat-tailed fool wants to bray like a donkey about being disrespected. Hard work is nice, but if you have to call attention to how hard you're working, maybe you should focus on better results. Dam! Either way, the Ducks are flying South for January, but it would be nice to knock those pesky Beavers out of a bowl, or just knock them out. Here's a backyard brawl wake up call for the giant killers: Bonk! Get ready for some pro combat, fellers.
Remember Alex Zendejas, the kicker who taunted the coach after de-icing himself to convert a field goal just before half? He Brotzmanned his last two extra points, one at the end of regulation, one in overtime, as Arizona State upended Arizona 30-29 last night in Tucson. Karma is treacherous. Next time just make the kick, and pat your holder on the helmet.
Bob Clark of the Register-Guard has Beaver updates. OSU is hoping to use great execution to counter the blur, and James Dockery and the rest of the Beavs are excited about their new solar orange togs.
Charles Fischer weighs in with another much-anticipated Fish Report, this one on the Beavs' imposing defensive tackle Stephen Paea, who might be the best the PAC has seen since Haloti Ngata and Igor Olshansky wore the mallard green iridescent helmet, which is still the coolest headgear in college football. Paea is strong, tenacious, and disruptive. He caused no end of problems for the Ducks in last year's game, blowing up double teams and one-handing LMJ. Fish breaks it down: double team him, zone read him, and run the other way.
Paea's a great player, no doubt, but the Ducks have a few great players too. They'll do their best in that matchup, and win several others. I'd bet KASH money that a certain nacho cheesy cornerback will make his presence felt in this game. He's one Duck who can not only talk it, but also walk it, and run it back in a blur: Whoooooooshhhhhh!
