Live Game Blog, 3rd Quarter

Bair with another beat-down, bat down. Tenacious D! The starters are out defensively in the 3rd quarter. Might be a conditioning, focus thing.

Harris with another 20-plus return.

Giansante pulls out the electric football reference. That's old school.

Costa with the keep, and The Gentleman for a first down. He doesn't have the cuts of Barner and James, but who does? He'll run north-south and chew up clock.

No comments so far. Anyone reading this scintillating analysis?

Beard with the Morgan Flint-like reliability. Good to see him find rhythm and confidence. There will be a couple of games where they need a kick to put a game away. The season gets harder in a hurry in the coming weeks.
Kavanaugh has a side-arm motion, and he's had maybe seven passes batted down today. Threet, Luck, and Foles won't give them that kind of motion, but it's good to see them develop that kind of penetration and presence.

Ducks steal a play from Denard Robinson with the option then the pitch-pass. Josh Huff with a good gain, a step forward for him.

Costa runs for ten, and Hawkins glides inside the five.

Nate gets a perseverance touchdown. Good to see. Ducks probably have the most reliable backup in the conference, a tremendous asset. His class in accepting that role will make this a stronger team with an appreciably increased upside.

Wonder if the Ducks slow the tempo from this point.

Clemson still holding to a 10-0 lead. Louisville has closed to 35-28 with five minutes to play in Corvallis.

Tip drill! Javes Lewis with the interception on the tip by Michael Clay, who was day-to-day this week in practice.

Josh Huff gets a confidence-boosting run on the pitch, 18 yards for the td. Getting him untracked adds some necessary playmaking depth at receiver.

Quizz Rodgers 23 carries for 133 yards versus Louisville today. Wonder what he'll get against Boise State. Beavs running out the clock with a touchdown lead.

Swarming tackling by the second team defense. The urgency is still there.

Joe G with some useful information. PSU nine punts, 0-13 on third down.

Offensive line completely collapses the Portland State front for Reed to rumble up the middle.

Alston dashes for 22 and a score, hitting the slip and slide at the pylon.

This is one of those games where you have to say, "It's not our fault your team sucks. The Ducks are in basic formations running basic plays, but the Vikes don't have the depth or talent for the number five team in the country. I guess we knew that. But you can't say they're pouring it on. They're still playing football. Doing anything else would be more insulting, not less.

One thing I miss about the old grass field days is you could tell who's wearing the fresh jerseys.

Joey Harrington's love of college football comes through in his comments. A nice tribute to the work and progress Nigel Burton has made at Portland State.

Harris has 4 punt returns for 67 yards, and I think maybe he'll have enough returns now to qualify for the national rankings, and he'll probably be close to officially leading the nation. Alston has 9 carries for 55 yards, with a quarter remaining to get his second hundred yards of the season. Can you tell I'm a diehard?
