Key Positives from a Rout

Winning big is always gratifying on the surface, but in a game like this, you look for development and growth that will pay dividends later.

Some post game notes from Andy McNamara at goducks:

· Brandon Bair set career highs with 2 sacks and 3 TFLs.

· Malachi Lewis and Josh Huff had their first touchdowns as Ducks, and Darryle Hawkins had his first touchdown reception. Getting these guys involved and productive is a great development if they have to be called on in weeks to come. Lewis in particular is encouraging, because right now the Ducks appear to be very banged up at tight end.

Thomas has TD passes to how many guys? Let’s count: Paulson, Barner, Paulson again, Tuinei, Maehl twice, Hawkins and Lewis. That is spreading the sugar around, and it shows he has good field vision and is finding various targets. In three games, he has just two picks versus 8 touchdowns. The pick today was the worst pass he’s thrown, rushed under pressure and heaved into coverage off his back foot. He ran well today, generally, but had a couple of bad reads in the zone read. Made a very nice run pulling the ball down from the pocket and shooting around containment in the second quarter.

Is he ready for his first PAC-10 road game? I give him a solid B, with extra credit for having a good mindset and a very bright future. A road environment clearly doesn’t bother him, but Erickson will have his defense bringing all kinds of pressure.

3-0 is 3-0. You can't be 13-0 without starting 3-0.

Huge unanswered question: why did John Boyett sit out the first quarter?

Whoa! #23 UCLA with the big bounce back, leading Houston on the road 21-3 at the half. the Bruins have two picks off Keenum.
