Live Game Blog, 2nd quarter

LMJ 12-153 two touchdowns, 3 great runs on the last 3 carries, and a 35-yard td. He's done for the day, I'll bet.

Tailgaters will no doubt start streaming out in another series or two.

Not getting the depth or penetration they need on kickoff coverage--ASU had two long returns today, both for over 90 yards.

I know I'm quibbliing in a 28-0 game, but the point of this game is improving and staying healthy.

Another 3 and out for the defense.

Rugby style punt stymies Harris. No chance for a return.

Thomas with his longest run as a Duck. Great recognition. He made a Dixon-like move in pulling the ball down.

Huff hasn't adjusted to the college speed of play yet. He has talent and he'll get acclimated. Look for him to get extended touches in this game as it wears on.

Another good keep by Thomas, but on the next play he throws off his back foot, intercepted by Latu. Poor footwork and a forced throw. A teachable moment.

Bair with, all together now, another tackle for loss. Let's hope he builds on this.

Marvin Johnson with a very intelligent read on screen coverage.

Harris!

I would never criticize the Dophin brain of Chip Kelly but I don't know why LaMichael James is still in the tailback rotation right now.

Two good throws by Thomas, and Hawkins gets a SLASH moment with a nice catch, adjusting to the ball. Hawkins versatility is a great insurance policy for the Ducks. He'll pay dividends and make some plays this year. I think he has a future as a possession receiver. Will run great routes and run well after the catch.

35-0. Decisive but not flawless. Defense looks hungry, relentless and better every possession. Overwhelming the Vikings at the line of scrimmage.

Taylor Hart stuffs a run, doing a Brandon Bair imitation.

The second team defense produces a three and out, playing with urgency.

It's really embarrassing to hear Joe Giansante, former Duck mascot, sucking up to two Duck legends in the booth, broadcast the game, tell interesting stories, but have a little professionalism. Am I being too critical?

James 15-218, Thomas 6-12 for 108, 3 tds.

Hard to be hard on a guy who's run for +200 yards, but if LaMichael wants a long NFL career, he has to improve as a pass catcher, and he knows that. Thomas' stats have been marred by drops. I count three off the top of my head, maybe five balls that could have been caught.

Now that it's unfolded this way, the Duck defense has to want the shutout. It's a pride thing, motivation for the future.

2:05 in the first half. 412 yards offense for Oregon. McCraffrey with a fumble, hammered by Brian Jackson.

The Gentlemen could hit the century mark today. He'll get 20 carries or more.

Tuinei with the go-go Gadget arms, snares a ball below his waist.

Thomas overshoots Tuinei.

Oregon pushing the tempo. Does this classify as pouring it on?

Thomas overshoots Davis in the end zone, then scrambles, and comes up signaling for the timeout. I like the game sense.

He finds Malachi Lewis, great protection, great touch, good catch. A good way for him to end his day. 45-0 at the half.

Thomas 9-18, 142, 4 tds, 1 pick.
