7-0 #13 Michigan State avoided a hangover or a letdown, handling Illinois 26-6. It's a shame Sparty doesn't play the Buckeyes this year. The Big Ten (Eleven) 8-game conference schedule allows them to duck each other in a season that would be a very compelling game. The Spartans are this year's Cinderella story with their coach Mark Dantonio recovering from a heart attack and the overtime win over Notre Dame. They continue to be a great story.
The unbeatens aren't falling, and if they continue to hold serve, the BCS debate could get Congressional-Hearings messy by December.
5-0 #21 Missouri cruising on the road over a Texas A&M team that normally gives them trouble. Quarterback Blaine Gabbert was banged up this week but played big, 31/47 for 361 yards, 3 tds. Their success shows how versatile a spread attack is. Missouri's is a throw-first, last and often offense, a complete 180 from the Ducks.
College football fans will find out very quickly if these Tigers have teeth--they host #6 and unbeaten Oklahoma next Saturday, and travel to #5 and undefeated Nebraska the following week.
Elsewhere #16 Florida State stuck the spear in the Boston College Eagles, 24-19, and #25 West Virginia castrated South Florida 20-6 on Thursday. All the rest of the top 25 is later. Good day to take a nap, rake the leaves, or sneak in one last nine holes of golf.
