15th-ranked Georgia Tech scored first and led at the half, but a determined Kansas team scored a touchdown in each quarter to stun the Yellow Jackets 28-25. The Jayhawks were 0-1, having started the season with a 6-3 loss at home to North Dakota State.
From the stats, it wasn't stumble-bumble loss. Each team only had one turnover. KU just outplayed 'em, getting 101 yards rushing from running back James Sims, and a steady quarterbacking performance from freshman Jordan Webb, who was 18-29 for 179 yards and three touchdowns.
In other early games, South Florida was locked up 7-7 at halftime with the Florida Gators, but Urban Meyer's team is pulling away in the second half. That's the second straight slow start for the Gators, who only led Miami of Ohio 21-12 in the fourth quarter last week before getting two late touchdowns. They're struggling to find themselves offensively without Tim Tebow, and the number four ranking may be a little high. UF has Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and LSU in their next four games, so the jury shouldn't be deliberating long.
With the third quarter closing visiting James Madison has Virginia Tech on the upset watch, trailing just 16-14. The Hokies, still stinging from the tough Monday night loss to Boise State, don't seem to have a lot of fire for this one. Wait, JM just scored on a 12-yard keeper by quarterback Drew Dudzik, and leads 21-16.
College football--it's fourteen weeks of Fall Madness, with enough diaper dandies and cinderellas for anybody.
