Random Thoughts Over a Post-Game Glass of Wine

Ducks won by 37 and didn't play well, particularly. They were good in flashes and overwhelmed an inferior opponent, but they had too many penalties, two turnovers and didn't look sharp. Another slow start and sluggish beginning to the third quarter. Had some huge plays called back by penalty, a 62-yard pass to Davis, an 80-yard kickoff return by Huff.

Darron Thomas is blossoming into an incredibly effective quarterback in this offense, and he and LaMichael are the best one-two punch in the country, combining for 6 touchdowns today.

Stanford taking care of Arizona 20-3 nearing the half. OSU knotted up with UCLA 14-14 in the fourth quarter.

Is the Washington rivalry officially dead? Not to say it can't be revived, but right now, where these teams are, is there anything left of that tradition? Probably not in the minds of players or younger fans.

Goal for the last three games: keep DT healthy, and have fewer self-inflicted wounds. They'll have to have better starts and more complete performances to finish 3-0.

  1. May I join you in your randomness?

I thought we brought our B game today. And that was plenty good enough against UW. But the last two games we've had a lot of misreads and sloppy play on offense. That needs to be tightened down against Arizona.

Our defense was very good. Aggressive, used their speed well and gang tackled a lot.

I give our special teams an A. They played superbly.

Without Costa, we're in a world of hurt. I would not burn a redshirt over it and use our #3 QB as best we can. Our running game is good enough to keep other teams honest enough that the #3 QB (if he has to play) will only be asked to make safe passes. That'll work against Cal & OSU. In fact, if we simply put LJ and Barner in the backfield together, the defense will have to put in the box and then our receivers can easily find areas in the zone defense.

All in all, a good Duck victory against a hated foe.
