Scoreboard Watching and Web Surfing

Wisconsin's making a bid to be the best one-loss team, finishing strong with a 62-13 win over Indiana. A Stanford-Wisconsin matchup in the Rose Bowl would be a great game, a smashmouth, old-school classic.

Kansas State and Missouri in a good game, 21-14 in the second quarter. Chris Harper doesn't have a touch. now a slot receiver in an offense that has thrown just 7 times in this game and just 10 times last week. The Big 12 is like the PAC-10 this year, strong at the top, muddled in the middle.

Iowa up on Northwestern 17-14 in the fourth.

LSU plays Louisiana-Monroe today. The SEC is ridiculous. Every record in the SEC is inflated by one or two wins. The battle cry is always "we have four (or five) ranked teams. Yeah, but they're all playing Chattanooga, Idaho State and Louisiana-Monroe in game 9 or 10 of the season, padding their records.

If College football goes to a playoff system, which I'm not particularly keen on, I hope they create a superconference of the best 64 teams in eight divisions, and make these schools play a national, challenging schedule out of conference. Each team would play seven conference games and a weighted nonconference schedule with interesting cross-sectional matchups. No more hypenateds, no more Idahos and Utah States.

Whoa! Northwestern rallies, 20-17, a minute to go. Wisconsin 76-13.

Ted Miller says Jeff Maehl is questionable today, but Moseley reported late this week the only players in red jerseys at the end of the week were the quarterbacks. Maehl is too tough too miss a game. He'd have to be in a boot or a cast to sit out.
