Taylor Martinez is the Quarterback Chris Harper Thought He Should Have Been

So much for Thursday night magic. Nebraska shucked Kansas State 48-13, Taylor Martinez running for 241 and passing seven times for 128 yards. The Huskers had scoring runs of 35, 39. 80, 68, and 41 yards, the 35, 80 and the 41 by Martinez, who also tossed a 79-yard scoring pass to tight end Kyler Reed.

Chris Harper scored on a two-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter long after the game was out of reach, and altogether he had 2 catches for 13 yards. Certainly understandable that a young man would choose to transfer to be closer to home, but I wonder if he would trade places with emerging Duck star Josh Huff right now, who plays the role to Harper might have had in the potent Oregon offense.

Look out for Nebraska. The Huskers are 5-0 now, with a weakened Big 12 North ahead of them. They host wounded Texas on October 16 with 10 days to prepare, then travel to #22 Oklahoma State, then host #24 Missouri on October 30. They have a steady diet of bottom feeders in November, and could easily run the table. Multiple undefeated teams and a BCS brouhaha appear possible right now, but as any coach will tell you, there's a lot of football to be played.

Martinez's playing styling reminds me a little of Jeremiah Masoli. At this point he appears to be a running back who can throw a little.
